Education
Every student should be able to receive a world class education in our schools, work hard and retire with dignity. For many years, we have provided inadequate funding to our schools. We must address our state’s long term budget limitations in order to adequately fund our schools and invest in California’s future. California struggles with boom and bust times when our state revenue changes dramatically. In 2018, we passed a state budget that included record funding levels for K-12 education, but during economic downturns these funds are substantially reduced and our school districts are left struggling to make up the difference. I supported our State Budget that included $9 Billion for public schools, and additional $8 Billion additional in learning recovery grants to help our students who missed out on in-person instruction during the pandemic.
I am also committed to improving higher education. I wrote the law that puts qualified California students first in line for admission to the UC system over lesser qualified, out of state students. And I am working to bring a California State University campus to Concord, providing local education and economic opportunities. I am proud to have worked to secure funding for a study on the expansion of a CSU campus in Concord and will continue to advocate for expanding higher education access in our communities.
